New year, new me?

I'm not sure about you, but every year around this time, I brace myself for all the posts, meme's and lists about this topic. It frustrates me to no end. And not only is this a beginning of a new year, but a new decade which-- in my opinion, holds more of a pressure and higher expectation than if it was just any other normal beginning to a new year. Why is that? Well for a lot of us, we think of it as a "fresh start", "clean slate" or an opportunity for "new beginnings" as we hear and see every 1st of Jan. We want to forget the pain + hard times we've been through this past year (or decade-- yiiiiiiikes), and set goals to better ourselves in moving forward. We think that just by going to sleep and waking up in a a day ending in different numbers, everything automatically changes. I'm here to tell you (or remind you) that

CHANGE CAN'T + WON'T HAPPEN WITHOUT ACTION.

This is why a week into January, the majority of our new year resolutions are forgotten and we're ready to just "try again next year". Let me also remind you that Einsteins definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. This is why it's SO crucial to set practical steps for ourselves in order to reach those goals. But it's also important to remember that every year comes with new + different challenges and to just take it day by day.

MAKE A SET TIME TO GO THROUGH THE GOALS YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

Get alone to think on some areas you want to grow in or change, and your reasoning behind them to get you started. It's important to take time to think about what you want and ways you can get it.

WRITE THEM DOWN

So you don't forget, and have them to look back on and check off as you accomplish them! It becomes more real and is a practical way to help you stick to it.

TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THEM!

It's always good to have accountability by telling someone your goals so they can ask about them and it becomes more set in stone! But in this, definitely make sure to not compare your goals to someone else's goals as you are on your own personal path.

That's all guys! Short and to the point. I know that every year, I always get in my head about new goals + then get discouraged by not following up with them. I mean, look at me, it's January 10th and I'm posting this. Definitely not there yet :P

Until next time,
